The trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Samuel de Champlain is converted into a dual fuel dredger. The old diesel generators are replaced by a dual fuel (diesel and LNG) system to improve the reliability and environmental performance of the vessel.
Benefits of dual fuel
Converting the dredger to a dual fuel vessel has several benefits. Firstly, LNG engines require significantly less maintenance, saving money and increasing uptime. Also, when the dredger operates on LNG, this will result in the significant reduction in emissions.
In addition to this, vibrations are significantly less. This results in a more pleasant work environment for the crew and the impact on marine life will be less.
iMSL® Small Scale
Since the dredger operates on LNG it is required to have a Safety Communication Link. The link must send out an Emergency Shut Down Signal in case of an emergency. The Mampaey iMSL® Small Scale is Mampaey’s Ship-Shore link solution for bunkering operations. It is outfitted with a 5 pin SIGTTO and a pneumatic link to communicate the Emergency Shutdown Signal.
The 5 pin SIGTTO link is in-house manufactured by Mampaey. Our iMSL® system is backwards compatible and able to connect to different Ship-Shore systems.
A Multi Safety Link communication system is a mandatory safety measure on an LNG Bunker Barge; the bunkering of LNG requires a linked Emergency Shut Down (ESD) system to ensure a controlled shutdown of the transfer operation in the case of a detected emergency. The Mampaey iMSL® Small Scale solution is practical and has backwards compatibility to the existing LNG and bunkering market.
